“WELLBAG-S350”Outline

A new spheroid formation tool that achieves “closed system”, “uniform size in large quantities”, and “easy collection”.

WELLBAG-S350 has 32,000 microwells with a well diameter of 350 ㎛. The size of the bag is the same with WELLBAG-S500, so the same dedicated holder can be used.
This product has the same well diameter as a large WELLBAG: WELLBAG-L350, so it can be used for scaleup studies.

Seven Features

1. WELLBAG is a closed bag system which reduces the contamination risk of bacteria and foreign substances as opposed to “Open system containers”.

2. Mass culture of uniformly sized spheroids

Fine and uniform microwells are processed on the bottom surface of WELLBAG with non-cell-adhesive coating, while top surface of WELLBAG is has an overhang part. When the cell suspension is injected into the bag from the injection port, the cell suspension is distributed almost evenly throughout the bag and by leaving it still, each microwell contains approximately the same number of cells. As a result, uniform size of spheroid is formed in each microwell.

WEEBAG-S350
Size 72mm × 120mm
Material Polyethylene with non-cell adhesion coating
Culture area 50cm2
Culture volume 10 – 20mL
Well diameter 350μm
Number of wells ca. 32,000

3. Easy collection of spheroids after the culture and no damage to spheroids during collection

Turn the bag upside down to drop the formed spheroids, and then collect the spheroids with a syringe. Compared to conventional culture methods using petri dished, flasks, etc., it is much easier and can be recovered without damaging spheroids.

4. Efficient gas exchange due to high gas permeability film

A high gas permeability film is used to ensure sufficient gas exchange of medium in a closed culture system.

5. High operability using a dedicated holder

By attaching the WELLBAG to a dedicated holder, the movement of spheroids between wells is suppressed and portability becomes possible. Parts of the base plate and holding plate are transparent, allowing microscopic observation while attached.

6. Safety standards according to the Japanese Pharmacopoeia

Cytotoxicity test Confirmed
Leachable test Confirmed
Ashing test Confirmed
Endotoxin test Less than 0.25EU/mL
Sterility Radiation Sterilization

7. Easy to remove air bubbles inside the wells.

To remove air bubbles in the wells, incubation method is recommended.
Please refer the operation manual of WELLBAG for details.

  • Note: Regarding application to insulin-producing cells, including pancreatic progenitor cells, there may be restrictions depending on the intended use. So, please contact us in advance if you intend to use WELLBAG to these applications.

FAQ

  • Q.1Where can I buy a WELLBAG-S350?
    A.1

It is available at our contracted distributors.

  • Q.2What is the difference between WELLBAG-S350 and WELLBAG-S500?
    A.2

The well diameter of WELLBAG-S500 is 500 μm and the number of wells is approximately 18,000, while the well diameter of WELLBAG-S350 is 350 μm and the number of wells is approximately 32,000. Please note that the number of seeded cells per well and the number of cells required are different. Since WELLBAG-350 has a small well diameter, we recommend using the incubation method to remove air bubbles. The dedicated holder for the WELLBAG-S350 can be used in common with the WELLBAG-S500.

  • Q.3How do I make the spheroid the size I want to make it?
    A.3

Basically, adjust the cell suspension so that the number of cells required to form spheroids of the desired size can be seeded into each of the 32,000 wells. Please consider various conditions such as whether the cells are easy to grow or not.
It is not possible to create spheroids larger than the well diameter.
