Wellbag, the world's first closed-system cell culture container to form spheroids,
wins the Awards for Excellence in the 2022 Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards.

We are pleased to announce that Wellbag, a novel cell culture container the Toyo Seikan Group (the "Group") has developed, won the Awards for Excellence in the 2022 Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards. The world's first cell culture bag to generate spheroids (cell aggregates) under a closed system allows for the formation of uniform-sized spheroids composed of stem cells, such as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and easy collection of the formed spheroids. On February 1, 2023, we received a commendation from Nikkei Inc, the sponsor of the awards, at the award ceremony held at The Okura Tokyo (Minato-ku, Tokyo).

This is the third award we received for our products during fiscal 2022, following Japan's Good Design Award for DAN DAN DOME, a prefabricated cardboard tent that is recyclable, and the double awards in the Canmaker Cans of the Year Awards 2022 for Toyo Seikan's products.

About the Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards

The Nikkei Excellent Products and Services Awards, sponsored by Nikkei Inc., annually selects best products and services among those appearing in the Nikkei group's media. The award program has a long history dating back to 1982, and has marked its 41th anniversary.

In the 2022 awards, Wellbag won the Awards for Excellence out of the 197 candidates. Decisive factors for the award included the innovative idea of a cell culture vessel in the form of a bag and its high potential for contributing to regenerative medicine.
