Functional material related business

We provide various functional materials with high quality and performance that are used in a wide range of areas. Toyo Kohan has developed magnetic disk aluminum substrates and optical functional films by applying the surface treatment techniques and other advanced technologies of its mainstream steel plate related operations, while TOMATEC, another group company, provides pigments, enamelware glazes, gel coats and micro-element fertilizers.

Strategy and key measures in FY2023

Toyo Kohan

  • We are entering the area of aluminum substrates for magnetic disks during a lull in demand that started in the second half of FY2022. Due to our expectations for recovery in the second half of FY2023, we are moving ahead on quality improvements and cost reductions while preparing for demand to come back.
  • In optical functional film, we ensure superior quality over that of our competitors while proceeding to save on costs.

  • Amid a recovery in sales volume during a challenging economy, we also seek to make progress on cost reductions and cost pass-through to sales prices to secure profits.
