The Can of the Year Awards ceremony took place at The Canmaker Summit 2019 held in London from October 9 to 10, 2019, where 375ml aTULC for Dark House wine jointly nominated by E. & J. Gallo Winery and the Company's consolidated subsidiary Toyo Seikan Co., Ltd. won "Can of the Year Beverage Two-Piece Gold award".
E. & J.Gallo Winery, based in California and the largest wine brewery in the world, worked with Toyo Seikan for two years to produce this container consisting of Toyo Seikan's polyester-coated aluminum DWI can "aTULC" and newly developed special BPA-NI end for Gallo's 375ml Dark House wine lineup, which was launched in May 2019.
While it has long been difficult to accomplish both the long shelf life and BPA-NI for canned wine, Gallo's test results revealed that, by pairing aTULC can body and the new end, this container can better preserve the flavor of wine, thus extending the shelf life to over double that of conventional aluminum DWI can.
* aTULC is a BPA-NI beverage can manufactured with environmentally friendly can making process, eliminating the consumption of water during production.
* E. & J. Gallo Winery's Dark Horse wine lineup is now filled and sold in the U.S. using aTULC from Toyo Seikan. The lineup includes six varieties of Dark Horse Wine: Pinot Noir, Rosé, Sauv Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Brut Bubbles and Rosé Bubbles, and two varieties of André Champagne: Brut and Brut Rosé.
