Toyo Kohan Buys the First Forest J-Credits Certified in Yamaguchi Prefecture
– Helping to Revitalize Forestry and Promoting Forest Conservation in the Area –

Toyo Kohan Co., Ltd. (“Toyo Kohan”; President: Masahiro Kai), a consolidated subsidiary of Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. (Tokyo 5901; President: Ichio Otsuka), has concluded a purchase contract with Mitsui & Co., Ltd (President: Kenichi Hori) for forest J-Credits*1, which have been certified for the first time in Yamaguchi Prefecture, to help realize a decarbonized society through forest conservation. These credits represent the amounts of CO₂ absorbed by properly managed forests in the prefecture*2 as part of a joint project between Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Yamaguchi Agriculture and Forestry Promotion Public Corporation. Toyo Kohan is the first company to purchase credits generated by this project and will acquire 1,300 tons of credits annually for eight years—from fiscal 2024 to fiscal 2031—corresponding to the CO₂ derived from heavy oil (C heavy oil) that is emitted by Toyo Kohan.
