Dry Shampoo
Toyo Aerosol Industry Co., Ltd.
Dry shampoo is an aerosol product that provides a clean and fresh feeling without leaving any residue or stickiness. It can be used in various situations, such as outdoor activities, during recovery from illness, or in times of disaster.
•Provides a dry, light feel while still having sufficient oil absorbency.
•Solves issues such as clogged pores, residue, and powder dispersion.
•Contains ingredients that prevent dryness, enhance shine, and provide a refreshing sensation.

In Western countries, many people choose not to shampoo their hair every day due to reasons such as hard water that doesn't lather well and concerns about damage to the hair and scalp. Instead, dry shampoo is often used as an alternative, and in recent years, there have been numerous developments in powder-based dry shampoos.
However, Western dry shampoos often have problems, such as being easily dispersed and leaving a white powder residue, They can even strip away the natural shine of the hair. In addition to these problems, Japanese people have a resistance or aversion to the habit of not rinsing their hair, so dry shampoo has not become a popular daily-use product in Japan.
To address these issues and improve the user experience, we developed an aerosol dry shampoo product that is suitable not only for overseas people but also for Japanese people who may have reservations about not rinsing their hair.
The oil-absorbing powder used in dry shampoo is effective in absorbing oil and preventing odor, thus providing a silky smooth feel. After various evaluations, we selected corn starch as the main powder because it has the appropriate oil-absorbing capacity while meeting the requirements of physical properties, cost, and delivery time.
If the oil-absorbing powder particles are too large, they are likely to clog pores, while if they are too small, there is a risk of accidental ingestion. The particle size was adjusted to a suitable diameter of 1-30μm.
Furthermore, problems such as white residue, uneven dispersion, and excessive scattering of the powder were resolved by adjusting the amount of oil-absorbing powder to 3–5% and the spray pressure to LPG 0.15–0.35 MPa. This allows for the achievement of deodorizing effects and a smooth, silky feel.
To achieve the desired user experience in dry shampoo (preventing dryness, enhancing hair gloss, and providing a refreshing sensation), we carefully selected moisturizers (polyols) and emollients (fatty acid esters) as the ideal combination of additives. We also determined the optimal ratio for their formulation.
