Refill pouches made from recycled materials
Toyo Seikan Co., Ltd.
Refill pouches using recycled materials (PCR and PIR*) for the inner lining.
● Various recycled materials, including laminated films, can be used.
● Established material recycling technology from pouch to pouch.
* PCR (Post-Consumer Recycling): Products that have been used in the market are collected and recycled.
PIR (Post-Industrial Recycling): Recycled materials generated during the product manufacturing process before they reach the market.
In utilizing recycled materials, there are challenges in ensuring appearance quality and productivity due to the inclusion of foreign matter and different resins.
This product addresses the challenges inherent in recycled materials through a unique technology that sandwiches an inner layer made of recycled material between layers colored white.
We have achieved both quality and productivity. This refillable pouch is made from recycled materials and is suitable for mass production.
We will start by using 10% recycled material per pouch by weight, and in the future, we aim to increase the quantity and gradually raise the percentage.
We use used refill pouches collected from the market as raw materials, and the resulting pellets are used as part of our recycled materials.
Furthermore, through technological innovations, we are able to use a wide range of recycled materials. While there are currently limitations on the scope and proportion of use, we have established a system that allows for year-round supply. We are continuously working with our partners to improve our collection, sorting, and recycling systems.
I believe that encouraging consumers to choose products made with recycled materials is a meaningful initiative from an environmental education perspective, as it allows them to feel a tangible connection to reducing their environmental impact.
Although this initiative is being carried out in collaboration with our business partners, engaging with consumers is crucial, so I feel this presents an opportunity to try various approaches to lower the barriers to action. In the future, I think it would be good if we could make the process more transparent, including how we connect these efforts to changes in awareness and behavior.
