New chilled container cap that reduces plastic usage
Nippon Closures Co., Ltd.
A chilled container cap that maintains sealing and opening performance equivalent to conventional products, while reducing plastic usage by approximately 38% and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by about 15% across the entire container *
● Reduced plastic usage by lightening the bottle mouth and cap
● Lower cap height compared to previous models while maintaining ease of opening
● Increased number of caps improves transportation efficiency
* Nippon Closures Compared to previous models
Through joint development with our customers, we have reduced the overall amount of plastic used in the container by approximately 38% while maintaining the same container performance, such as airtightness and ease of opening, as with conventional products.
By thinning the walls and optimizing the shape, the bottle neck has been reduced in weight by approximately 30% compared to conventional models, and the cap has been reduced in weight by approximately 15% compared to conventional models.
To compensate for the reduced grip area resulting from shortening the overall height of the cap, the knurl * has been extended to the shoulder area, and the height of the knurl has also been revised.
This design ensures ease of grip and opening while maintaining a low overall height.
*The bumpy surface on the outside of the cap primarily provides a non-slip effect when opening, making it easier to grip.
I thought it was wonderful that they were able to reduce the environmental impact by decreasing the amount of plastic used and improve convenience by making it "easy to open" at the same time.
Hearing that the development took five years made me realize that these kinds of cumulative efforts contribute to reducing the environmental impact.
Going forward, we hope that this knowledge and experience will be shared and applied to various developments and products.
